Today’s topic: Beauty & Make up – CLARINS: Biodiversity

When ingredients offer similar results and sensorial pleasure, Clarins prefers to use raw plant ingredients, natural ingredients from organic farming practices, and plants grown locally or from a Fair Trade program. Rigorous ingredient policies affirm Clarins' constant commitment to preserve biodiversity.

Clarins is continually in search of new and rare plants with perceptible beautifying qualities. This is why they closely collaborate with ethno-pharmacologist, Jeanne-Pierre Nicolas of ‘Jardins du Monde’ meaning Gardens of the World.

“For Clarins, the vegetal world is an endless source of inspiration and innovation” – Dr Olivier Courtin-Clarins

Pioneering Natural Skincare
Clarins secret is in their natural, plant-based ingredients, clearly drawing on aromatherapy and phytotherapy theory in developing their products. Their first ever products, 100% pure plant extract Face and Body Oils remain their best-sellers even today.

Son of the company’s founder, Christian Courtin-Clarins is one of the most charming, charismatic and passionate people ever. His love of his company is palpable and as President of the Clarins Group he inspires his peers, employees and followers with his unique vision. His inspiration comes from his curiosity and desire to know what other people think, in particular the women who work with him, and it’s this desire that keeps him firmly on a creative path.

He speaks enigmatically on Biodiversity, a buzzword that bounces about the web and broadsheets like a rugby ball but then seems squashed by big burly men in an attempt to snatch it from one and other and take it on a different journey altogether. However, Christian’s determination to make a difference see’s him running with the ball and scoring. His earthly touchdown’s benefit more than just Clarins but also women, global fair trade and our planet.

In 1993, Clarins purchased a large portion of land in the French Alps, signing an agreement with Alp Action to help protect biodiversity.

Simply put Biodiversity is Life. Christian often talks about projects he has been involved with that bring meaning to the word biodiversity…A particular project that he enthused about and which is supported by Clarins is Jardins du mond. Led by ethno-botanist Jean-Pierre Nicolas (winner of the Clarins Environment Award), in Burkina Faso, West Africa, who has helped reintroduce medicinal plants and recreate traditional pharmacopeia where local communities have no access to conventional medicines. This included the planting of 12,000 trees of 4 different species which were important, medicinally, for food, local crafts and cosmetics. As a result of this project 40,000 people in the region have benefited.

Clarins acts as a corporate sponsor to Bertrand Piccard's Solar Impulse Project. Both companies share the aim of building a sustainable future for this planet. Piccard notes that “The real danger is not trying to make the impossible possible with a solar aircraft, but the real danger is burning millions of tons of fuel an hour, wasting our planets natural resources and changing our climate.

He is also working on Solar Impulse, one of many other projects close to his heart. Solar impulse is developing a solar plane which one day plans to fly around the world, night and day on solar energy alone…no fuel, no pollution, no emissions. By supporting this project it shows Clarins awareness of the energy question but also Christian Courtin-Clarins firmly believes that man has the capacity to find innumerable solutions to our environmental questions.

Next time you purchase a jar of Clarins cream or even a lipstick, you are supporting its many worthy causes….Solar Impulse, FEED, Jardin du Monde, fair trade, biodiversity and the list goes on…..

Tell us what you think!!! We will be glad to read you as well!!!

Love,
